It’s been seven years since I took my first step on this journey. Before this simple, yet empowering decision, I was floundering and going through the motions of life. I was completely unaware of the precious time being squandered, until it struck me like a lightning bolt. My purpose. Lying dormant in the depths of my soul, patiently waiting for me to uncover it on my own. Six continents later, five published calendars, and priceless memories.
ALL of this is the result of finding the courage to give myself permission to take the first step of my journey.
Life is hard. The growing pains we must endure to reach our full potential are merciless, unforgiving and disheartening. But without rain, the flowers would not bloom. Without pain, there would be no growth. It’s uncomfortable yet necessary.
When we want to start a business, hobby, skill, etc. we tend to compare ourselves to “the doers”, who have been taking action not only way longer than us but more importantly, who have failed MANY MORE times than we have even tried. It’s unfair to YOU, to compare your path to someone else’s.
Sometimes, our inability to take that first step has nothing to do with failing or overthinking the negatives. The first step can be terrifying because you may realize the endless roads of opportunity and success ahead of you. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.” – Marianne Williamson
Start here; give yourself permission to FAIL, to GROW, to be VULNERABLE.
As you begin to scratch, claw and strive for the life you want, you will begin to acquire REAL WORLD experiences. With each lesson you learn along your journey, you evolve. Your anxiety alleviates. Confidence grows stronger. Patience improves. You get better. Change comes from within, not from without.
All of this is a result of taking the first step. Please DO NOT be afraid to fail forward, be afraid of staying in the same spot. If there is ONE choice we have control over, it’s taking that first step. Give yourself the permission to walk into the beautiful abyss of this ONE AND ONLY LIFE we have.
There are many trails that lead to the top of a mountain. You can’t take the same path as someone else to the top. My path is different from yours. Your path is different from mine. I know I’m on my path. My question for you is, have you started yours?
